Kerath by riumplus Kerath by riumplus
I went caving while in Florida. I found that the best way to take a photo in a cave is to use a long exposure to capture the minimal light the existing lights provide for the background, plus steal someone else's flash for the foreground. This gives the best play between light and dark textures, making the rock formations and colours stand out the most.

Named after Kerath, the first ruler of D'ni from the Myst series of games. Because it reminded me of the D'ni cavern. :D

I think this cave reminds me a lot of the skull and teeth of an ancient, dead crocodilian creature. Nice! I have never had much luck with photos in caves. Will try your method next time...

^_^ This is cool. It reminds me of where Aitrus went of exploring in Book of Ti'ana. Nice job on the shot too! Cave pictures are murder.

Yeah.. especially without a tripod to stabilise them, it's hard to make them turn out. Very few from that caving trip worked out OK!

AWESOME! Finding some cave like this to wander through and not get lost is on my to-do list! ...the not get lost part is important, since I can even get lost in a cave in MYST or any other video game of lower awesomeness.

Go to one of the ones that has tours/guides in it. That'll make sure you don't get lost. :D

Yea, but... where's the fun in that? I'm more used to going with someone I dragged with me, complaining that we're lost, me reassuring them that we're fine because I'm preeeetty sure that this is the right way to go, and when it's once again not, having to listen to; "We're gonna die and it's gonna be YOUR FAULT!"

......ah memories

Why not go caving yourself sometime then? There's caves almost everywhere in the world. :D

I've gone in the caves we have near me, but they're nothing like the one in your picture.

The orange glow definitely contributes. ;) I wish you'd had access to a tripod for this shot, because it's so great except for that inevitable bit of blur. Now I'm wondering if the setting my camera has for shooting a person in the foreground with lights in the background would be good for this, because you get the flash but also a long exposure to catch the background.. hmm.. (I'd love to tour a cave system again anyhow.)
